Dharamshala, October 2, 2024: The Dalai Lama has sent heartfelt birthday wishes to former U.S. President Jimmy Carter on the occasion of his 100th birthday, calling it an "inspiring achievement." In a letter released by the Dalai Lama's office, he expressed deep admiration for Carter's long-standing dedication to humanitarian causes.
 
“I hope you are able to celebrate joyfully with your family. The life you have lived has been truly meaningful," the Dalai Lama wrote. "As you know, I have long admired your good works. To have remained so active for so long is really wonderful. Your continuing concern to be of benefit to others is an inspiration to us all. I thank you with all my heart.”
 
In a separate message, the Dalai Lama also extended warm congratulations to Japan's newly elected Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishida. He praised Japan’s commitment to peace and expressed hope for Ishida's success in building a more compassionate world.
 
“Over the years, I have had the opportunity to visit Japan regularly. I deeply appreciate the enthusiasm the Japanese people have shown in my efforts to encourage fundamental human values such as compassion,” wrote the Dalai Lama. “Japan has frequently taken the lead in promoting peace worldwide, and I hope you will build on this during your tenure.”
 
He concluded by wishing Prime Minister Ishida success in meeting the hopes and aspirations of the Japanese people while fostering a more peaceful and harmonious world.
