DAV School celebrated Teej with fervour

Jalandhar, August 24, 2023: The festival of Teej celebrates the bounty of nature, arrival of rains and greenery surrounded by social activities, rituals and customs. Students of DRV DAV Centenary Public School, Phillaur School celebrated Teej with great joy and fervour on the school campus on 23rd August, 2023 under the Heritage and Young Entrepreneurs Club.

Students participated whole-heartedly in the fun-filled function. The premises of the school were tastefully decorated with buntings, fresh flowers, swings and ribbons. Girls dressed in Punjabi cultural attire, drenched themselves in bhangra and gidhha beats. Creating a Teej atmosphere, girls applied mehandi and enjoyed the swings set up on the campus.

Chief guest Madhu Sharma, a freelancer -resource person for the motivational workshops - was accorded warm welcome by the teachers of Punjabi Department and Principal, Dr. Yogesh Gambhir in a very traditional way – under the shade of phulkari. It was a gala time for the students as they performed with true essence the traditional Giddha, Folk Dances, Folk Songs and Punjabi ‘Bolian’ and bhangra to mark the occasion.

Addressing the students, Madhu Sharma, talked about the importance of the day and inspired the girls to respect and abide by their parents and always remember their teachings. She also motivated girls to know their abilities and aspire to reach the sky. They should realize their potential and make their parents and country proud of them.

To make the celebration magnificent, the commerce students of class XI set up eight different stalls of snacks, beverages, shakes, DJ, games and many more for their customers who were the students of classes VI – XII. Since 2015, this activity has been conducted for commerce students to give them exposure to the real business world where students come out with their creative ideas, business proposals and presentation skills under the Project- Earning While Learning. Students got the opportunity to bring into practice the theoretical knowledge of Business Studies, Accountancy, Marketing and Economics. An important part of the program was ethics and social responsibility – students used ethical business, sales and marketing techniques; they also nominated a cause to receive a donation from any profits made.

Concluding this colourful event, Principal, Dr. Yogesh Gambhir congratulated all the students who have participated in the programme and exchanged greetings of Teej. He inspired the students to always uphold their punjabi culture. For the Commerce students specifically, he added - Nothing can surpass the pleasure of giving and no amount of wealth can satiate the spirits than the amount of satisfaction attained from earning for philanthropic purposes and blessed the students appreciating their efforts and motivating them for further endeavour. He also paid his earnest gratitude to the Guest of Honour for gracing the occasion and encouraging the young artists and the future entrepreneurs.

Thus, the day ended with students and teachers spending many joy filled moments together and giving countless heartfelt smiles.
