Jalandhar, September 10, 2015: DAVIET made it a golden double by lifting the IKGPTU Inter College Badminton Tournament in category of Men and Women held on Thursday. DAVIET teams transcended stiff competition in the mega event by defeating 19 competing teams in the category of men and 11 in the category of women. DAVIETians proved their mettle once again by clinching the overall gold after the grand victory of IKG PTU Inter College Cricket Tournament earlier this year.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal DAVIET appreciated the committed efforts of DAVIETians for organizing and winning this sports extravaganza. He further highlighted the fact that it is through participation in games and sports that students can inculcate the skills, capacities, values, and the enthusiasm to maintain a healthy lifestyle into adulthood. He also introduced the Chief Guest, Dr Buta Singh, Dean Academics, PTU, Jalandhar to the audience and highlighted his achievements. He expressed his gratitude towards the University for choosing DAVIET as the worthy host of such a grand event.
The Chief Guest of the Function, Dr. Buta Singh, Dean Academics, PTU, Jalandhar, also applauded the efforts put in by the players to outperform each other. He showed his happiness at the fact that though the matches were closely fought yet they were played in the true spirit of sportsmanship. He emphasized that sports form an integral part of our lives make us healthy, happy and satisfied. He also appreciated the sports culture of DAVIET which culminates in such sports victories.
The valedictory function was attended by Dr. Jagroop Singh, Sports President DAVIET, Dr. Sonia Chawla, Mr. Devinder Priyadarshi, Mr. Jaswinder Singh Dhillon along with faculty, staff and students of DAVIET . Mr. Jagdish, Mr. Satish, Mr. Sanjay Kundra, Mr. Manish, Mr Vinod, Ms Sandhya, Ms Madhuri, Mr Saurav and Mr. Mohit were the tournament officials.
In the end, prizes were distributed and the Chief Guest and the tournament officials were honoured.
