Day 1 at Telangana State Sailing Championships

The top seeds ruled the waters of Hussain Sagar at the 8th Telangana State Sailing Championships that started today.

It was a better day for weather and winds with the receding wet mild stormy conditions across Hyderabad leaving ideal sailing conditions in its wake.

The Sub Juniors sailed in the Optimist Class of boats and the Juniors in the ILCA4 Laser Class.

Govardhan Pallara of Hyderabad district snapped into the lead with a consistent performance in the sub juniors at the end of day 2 and led the leaderboard. Currently ranked India No.2 across gender he seems poised to win gold. 

Deekshita Komaravelly of Hyderabad had two convincing wins in the sub junior fleet and leaves no ground to doubt her experience and supremacy in the sub junior girls despite two bad races thereafter where she lost form . She also won two races in the junior fleet but sadly was disqualified to drop to 3rd overall . Deekshita stands overall 2nd across gender.

Her sister Lahiri Komaravelly stands 3rd but with equal points.

This is Deekshita’s last championship in the sub juniors and it does look like she will end up being the State Girls Champion while still ranked No. 1 in India across gender.

Shravan Kathravath of Nalgonda  in the junior laser fleet also won all but one race and is comfortable at top spot.

Maanya Reddy top seed and recently returned from the World championships had a mixed day but retained her grip on the girls junior laser fleet with two wins. 

Two major surprises were Gyaneshwari of Parsi School who came 3rd in the second race after a spectacular start and amongst boys Bhanu from Nallagutta Govt school who came second in the same race.
