DAY 3 of Junior World Congress at CMC, Ludhiana
Ludhiana, April 7, 2019: Commemorating the World Health Day, the Junior World Congress organised by Christian Medical College, Ludhiana observed it’s day 3 today. The distinguished speakers of the day were Dr Sangeeta Mahajan (Consultant Anaesthetist, Guy’s and St. Thomas’, London) who spoke on Being Human; Professor Peter Sandercock (Professor of Neurology, University of Edinburgh) who gave a talk on How to reduce thr Global Burden of Stroke; and Dr. Sajeev Cherian (Alice Spring and Royal Darwin Hospital, Australia) who gave a lecture on Chronic kidney disease - global and indian perspective. The much awaited event of the Congress was held yesterday - JWC WHO Model United Nation (MUN). The MUN was conducted to train the future leaders in the protocols of decision and policy making. “This was the first time that I was a part of a MUN and I thoroughly enjoyed it as I gained an idea of what it means to be in a parliamentary session.” said one of the participants. Orthopaedics and Cardiology workshops were conducted to equip the delegates and provide hands-on training. The orthopaedics workshop - Infigos was conducted by Dr Rajesh Paul (Professor and Head, Department of Orthopaedics) along with the other doctors of the department including Dr Anupam Mahajan, Dr Ajay Alex, Dr Abhishek and Dr Noel. The workshop comsisted of multiple sessions on basic life support, emergency trauma care and management of spinal injury. The cardiology workshop - Cardiacus was conducted by the Dr Rajneesh Calton (Professor and Head, Department of Cardiology) and his team including Dr Ram Gopal Shahi, Dr Ashwin Kooran and Dr Sumeet. The workshop was aimed at teaching the basics of cardiology to the undergraduates students. Running in parallel to the above mentioned events were many other academic and cultural events such as Poster Presentation, Quiz, Story Writing and Ad making. The Congress has been arranged in association with Asian Medical Students Association, India and is hosting almost 350 delegates from across the globe. “The shifting trend from infectious to non infectious etiologies is alarming and the future doctors should be prepared for the same. The Congres will provide a cutting edge educational experience with regards to the same”, said Dr Jeyaraj Pandian, Principal of CMC.
