DBT-GoI sponsored Biotechnology workshop at Lyallpur Khalsa College

Jalandhar, February 25, 2015: Post Graduate Department of Biotechnology of Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar organised DBT Star Grant Supported one day workshop on “Protein Purification and Applications using AKTA-PRIME”.

In this workshop, eminent scholars from GE healthcare; Rakesh Arora and Karan Sharma were the resource persons. In this workshop, about thirty five participants from university and various colleges participated. There are three lectures delivered by different resource persons of GE Healthcare. Rakesh Arora gave an informative talk on “GE Profile and Tools for Proteomics”.

After that, Karan Sharma delivered a lecture on “Ways to purify protein using Liquid Chromatography” and on “Effective use of Tangential flow filtration”. Thereafter, the whole session of hands on training cum practical was carried out in the department of Biotechnology itself where participants learned the way to purify protein using AKTA PRIME System under the supervision of resource person.

Principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra and Co-ordinator cum HOD Dr. Arun Dev Sharma gave token of honour to resource persons. Co-ordinator Dr. Arun Dev Sharma made a mention that protein purification hold central and key place in biotechnology as in every organism (Plant, animals, microbes) proteins are basic building blocks of metabolic pathways. Further, on this occasion, second issue of the research journal of college named “Research and Reviews in Biotechnology and Bio-sciences” was released. This research journal is a multi disciplinary research-oriented, first journal of the college. The detailed instructions for submitting articles can be retrieved from college website. Thereafter, valedictory function was concluded in which certificate of participation was distributed to participants. Stage Secretary Dr. Inderjeet Kaur and various faculty members: Prof. Gobind Ram, Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Dr. Harsharan Singh, Dr. Vani Aggrawal, Prof. Pratibha and Prof. Amanjot Kaur also graced the occasion. President Madam Balbir Kaur congratulated the principal Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra and HOD Dr Arun Dev Sharma for successful completion of the national workshop.
