DC and SSP vow to wage war against drug menace, solicit fulsome support to make drug free district
NPS Randhawa and Sandeep Sharma start mass awareness drive in Khatkar Kalan
Khatkar Kalan (Nawanshahr), April 25, 2022: Kick-starting a mass awareness drive against the drug menace in Khatkar Kalan, the native village of legendary freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sandeep Sharma along with hundreds of the people on Monday pledged to wage a war against the drug trafficking in the district.
Soliciting wholeheartedly support of people especially youths, the Deputy Commissioner and SSP asked them to work in tandem with the administration and get unite against the drug trafficking. They said that this war against the menace must be a mission of every Punjabi to save our future generation from falling prey to drugs.
They told that Shaheed Bhagat Singh sacrificed his life at the age of 23 to free the country from the clutches of British imperialism and we must follow his footsteps to make a drug free society by launching crusade against drugs and smugglers.
They expressed hope that the sacred land of Khatkar Kalan would inspire the people of the district to extend their help to administration in routing out the drugs from the society. NPS Randhawa and Sandeep Sharma said that the motive of organizing this interactive session was to ensure that drug dependents can come forward and get the treatment from local government’s OOAT or rehab center.
Both the officers said that the civil and police administration would hold such meetings in all the villages to eliminate the curse of drugs from the district and asked the people to approach them directly in case of any problem regarding the drug abuse.
During the event, they listened to the suggestions and issues raised by the villagers regarding the drug problem and said action would be taken promptly to wipe out the menace by nabbing the peddlers.
They also administered oath to the people against drugs. Earlier, DC and SSP were also felicitated by the people of the Khatkar Kalan.
Later, Deputy Commissioner also took stock of local library, solid waste management plant and village pond.
Prominent among present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Amit Sareen, SDM Navneet Kaur Bal, Tehsildar Lakshya Gupta, Naib Tehsildar Gurpreet Singh and others.
