DC begins drive to plant fruit saplings, exhorts all to protect environment
9000 fruit saplings planted in Ludhiana schools
Ludhiana, July 15, 2022: Kick-starting a drive to plants fruit saplings by horticulture department, Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik on Friday embarked on a plantation campaign at local district administrative complex.
Accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner (rural development) Amit Kumar Panchal, DC said that under this special movement, 9000 fruit saplings have been planted in the government schools of the district. She said that proper upkeep of the saplings would also be ensured. Exhorting the residents of district to play a pivotal role for making it a clean, green and pollution free district, she said that such plantation drives are need of the hour as the depleting green cover is a cause of concern. She said that it is duty of people to come forward and plant more and more number of saplings to provide green lungs to the district.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, who was planted a sapling, said that everyone must plant a sapling on different occasions like birthdays, marriages, anniversaries and other occasions to make it more memorable.
Deputy Director Horticulture Dr Narinder Pal Kalsi said that this drive has been started in consonance with the commitment of the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and horticulture minister Fauja Singh Sarari to encourage people to plant more and more saplings for making Punjab clean, green and pollution-free state. He also thanked DEO Kulwinder Kaur, DFO Harbhajan Singh and CAO Dr Narinder Benipal for their support.
