DC directs Agri dept to ensure maximum benefit of schemes to farmers
Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Monday directed the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare department to ensure the maximum benefits of the various schemes launched by the Punjab Government to the farmers in the district.
Ludhiana, February 26, 2024: Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Monday directed the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare department to ensure the maximum benefits of the various schemes launched by the Punjab Government to the farmers in the district.
Presiding over a meeting to review the functioning of the department here at the district administrative complex, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Punjab government was committed to the welfare of the farmers and sincere efforts were being made in this direction. She urged officials to create a strategy that would ensure the prosperity of farmers in the district.
Meanwhile during the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner was informed about the status of various schemes, cropping pattern of district, diversification program, crop residue management, checking drive, sampling of seeds/fertilizers/pesticides, soil health cards, and etc. She also called for laying emphasis on sensitization of farmers for cropping patterns as per the content/nature of soil.
The DC also directed for preparing a season wise cropping map of the district. She also laid stress on adopting innovative practices to enhance farmers' income with better production and providing alternative sources to them.
Chief Agriculture Officer Narinder Singh Benipal also gave an overview of the progress made in the various programs.
