DC directs procurement agencies to expedite lifting of paddy in mandis

Ludhiana, October 12, 2021:  Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Tuesday directed the chiefs of the procurement agencies to expedite the process of lifting of the paddy from the mandis in the district. 
Presiding over a meeting to review the lifting and procurement of grains here at his office in District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner categorically said that in some grain markets, lifting is not satisfactory which needed to be improved at the earliest. He said that any sort of laxity in performing this duty was totally unwarranted and undesirable. 
He revealed that till Monday, the district had procured 96507 MT paddy out of 105209 MT paddy arrived in Ludhiana's grain markets. He said that 84 percent of the procured paddy had been lifted and payments worth Rs 141.58 crore had also been made to the farmers. 
Sharma said that state government was firmly committed for the smooth and hassle free procurement of paddy and officers were duty-bound to make every effort to ensure that the government’s decision was implemented.
The Deputy Commissioner also asked the Heads of the Procurement agencies to visit mandis daily for taking stock of the entire operations at ground level. Sharma also asked them to minutely observe the procurement operations so as to ensure that the stocks of grains do not pile up in the market and its prompt lifting was ensured at the earliest.
The Deputy Commissioner also asked the officers/ officials to keep him updated regarding the procurement operations by submitting the daily report of arrival, purchase and payment of paddy crop to him personally. 
Sharma said that the district administration had made elaborate arrangements to ensure that the harvest of farmers was lifted from the grain markets in a smooth, timely and hassle free manner. 
On the occasion, District Food, Civil Supplies and controller (DFSC) west Surinder Kumar Beri, DFSC East Harveen Kaur, District Mandi Officer Davinder Singh and others were present.
