DC directs procurement agencies to expedite wheat lifting
Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Thursday directed the district heads of the procurement agencies to expedite the process of wheat lifting from the mandis in the district.
Ludhiana, April 18, 2024: Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney on Thursday directed the district heads of the procurement agencies to expedite the process of wheat lifting from the mandis in the district.
Presiding over a meeting to review the lifting and procurement of wheat here at her office in District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner said that any sort of laxity in performing this duty was totally unwarranted and undesirable. She disclosed that till to date in the district had witnessed arrival of 7351.40 MT wheat in Ludhiana's grain markets. She said that 76.54 percent wheat had been purchased and payments worth Rs 4.736 crore had also been made to the farmers.
Sawhney said that the district administration was firmly committed to the smooth and hassle free procurement of wheat and officers were duty-bound to make every effort to ensure that the government’s decision was implemented. She also asked the district heads of the procurement agencies to visit mandis daily for taking stock of the entire operations at ground level. She also asked them to minutely observe the procurement operations so as to ensure that the stocks of grains do not pile up in the market and its prompt lifting was ensured at the earliest.
The Deputy Commissioner also asked the officers/officials to keep her updated regarding the procurement operations by submitting the daily report of arrival, purchase and payment of wheat crop to her personally. She said that the district administration had made elaborate arrangements to ensure that the harvest of farmers was lifted from the grain markets in a smooth, timely and hassle free manner.
