DC exhorts people to become green ambassadors
Directs panchayats to set up mini forests in villages
Nawanshahr, June 5, 2022: On the occasion on World Environment Day, Deputy Commissioner Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa on Sunday exhorted the people to become green ambassadors and participate actively in plantation drives to make it mass movement.
Planting a sapling in District Administrative Complex, Deputy Commissioner said that in upcoming monsoon, the people must plant saplings in maximum numbers which would not enhance green cover but would also make the earth a better place to live in for our coming generations.
He also asked the people to plant a sapling on different occasions like birthdays, marriages, anniversaries and other occasions to make events more memorable and contribute in saving environment. He also directed the panchayats to develop mini forest in their villages by carrying out massive plantation drive on vacant space.
Deputy Commissioner said that the trees play a vital role in reducing impact of global warming and pollution’s levels as and clean free environment is a must for ensuring good health of the people. He said that trees are the only source of oxygen, which is the basis of human life on the earth.
NPS Randhawa said that it is duty of every individual to come forward and save the environment by planting sapling, saying no to plastic, yes to eco-friendly products in daily routine life, using clean energy transport means, minimum use of fuel vehicles and others.
Soliciting fulsome support of people in this noble cause, he called upon to also ensure proper upkeep of saplings to ensure proper growth.
He said that Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is committed for making Punjab clean, green and pollution-free state.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner along with officials of district administration participated in virtual state level function held to mark World Environment Day presided over by Secretary Rahul Tiwari from Department of Science, Technology & Environment.
In attendance during the event were Additional Deputy Commissioners Rajiv Kumar Verma, Amardeep Singh Bains, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Raj Kumar, DFO Satinder Singh and others.
