DC felicitates farmers for not burning paddy straw
Exhorts others to adopt crop residue management wholeheartedly for making Ludhiana free of menace
Ludhiana, November 4, 2022: Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik on Friday felicitated several progressive farmers of the district for not burning paddy straw.
Appreciating the farmers for contributing towards environment conservation by shunning the practice of straw burning in Bhatha Dhua, Hambran, Kotli, Baniewal, Valipur Khurd, Valipur Kalan and nearby villages, Surabhi Malik said that these farmers had set an example for others by disposing the paddy straw without causing pollution. These farmers had a tied up with private persons who own balers. The balers clear the paddy fields quickly following which farmers start sowing wheat into their fields.
She said these farmers had shown the courage to shun the practice of paddy straw burning and therefore helped in reducing the level of pollution.
Deputy Commissioner asked them to encourage other farmers to adopt the same way to manage the paddy straw and increase the number of those who are not burning their residues. She said that shunning the straw burning would be a real tribute to our Gurus who gave the message of Pawan Guru Pani Pita Mata Dharat Mahtt to the people. She said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was making strenuous efforts to disseminate the information about the hazardous effects of the paddy straw burning which poses a danger to human health and the environment.
Malik said that straw burning destroys several important nutrients and other micronutrients of soil whereas its health gets improved drastically if the residue of straw is harvested in the soil with the help of ultra-modern equipment.
