DC Kangra appealed to public to avoid using open market mustard seed and oil extracted from it
DC Kangra Dr. Nipun Jindal has appealed to people to refrain from using open market mustard and oil extracted from it.
Dharamshala, November 18, 2022: DC Kangra Dr. Nipun Jindal has appealed to people to refrain from using open market mustard and oil extracted from it. He has made this appeal to the people in view of the death of a person recently after consumption of mustard oil mixed with argemone seed in Khundian of Jawalamukhi area in Kangra district. He urged that anyone who has bought mustard seed from the open market in the past, should not use it or the oil extracted from it.
He informed that in this case of Khundian area, the affected family bought mustard seed from the open market and got its oil extracted in the local machine, due to which all the members of a family fell ill and one person of the family died. He said that according to the report of the health department, the death is due to oil in which seeds of Argemone were found mixed with the mustard seed.
The Deputy Commissioner said that as these mustard seeds were bought from the open market its availability in other areas of the district could not be ruled out. The investigation is on in this regard.
He further added that in the present situation it is advised that anyone who has bought mustard from the open market in the recent past, should not use it or the oil extracted from it till the investigation is completed.
Consumption of toxic mustard oil causes a disease called dropsy, seek medical advice immediately if symptoms appear.
Dr.Nipun Jindal said that the consumption of this poisonous mustard seed or the oil extracted from it causes a disease called dropsy. He said that swelling in the body especially in the feet, ankles and legs are its symptoms. He said that if any person has consumed open mustard or oil extracted from it in the concerned areas in the past and such symptoms are visible in his body, he should immediately go to the nearest health center and get his treatment done.
Dr.Nipun Jindal said that instructions have been given to the health department and health institutions and officials in the entire district regarding its treatment.
