DC kickstarts plantation drive at Sidhwan Canal on World Environment Day
Calls upon people of Ludhiana to joint hands with government to preserve environment
Ludhiana, June 5, 2022: Deputy Commissioner Surbhi Malik today launched a special plantation drive on the banks of Sidhwan Canal to mark the world environment day which was celebrated with enthusiasm across the district on Sunday.
Batting for preservation of natural resources like water, air and our soil, the deputy Commissioner said that the health of our natural resources determines the health of the entire human race on this planet which is the key to a healthy society. While lauding the efforts of NGO Lets Clean Ludhiana Foundation, she kick started the drive to plant saplings of flower trees along sides of Sidhwan Canal. She also thanked such NGOs who are playing a crucial role in keeping the city clean and green.
Meanwhile, the DC also participated in an event held by NGO City Needs on the occasion of world environment day where she appealed to the entire humanity to come forward to preserve air, water and soil so that the bright future of coming generations could be ensured through such collective efforts. She termed the act of environment preservation as a true service to humanity. She also exhorted farmers to not set ablaze crop residue as it not only pollutes the environment but also kills key nutrients in the soil. The DC also stated that this mission cannot be achieved without the support and cooperation of the public, hence it was the need of the hour that all of us should take a pledge to protect the environment.
On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Amit Kumar Panchal, NGO member J.S. Gill, Radhika Jaitwani, Deepinder Singh Chahal, Dr. Amandeep Singh Bains, Maneet Deewan, Rakesh Singhal, and others were present.
