DC Ludhiana thanks voters and officers/ officials for smooth election process
INC win 82, SAD 16, Independents 11, AAP 3 and BJP win two out of 114 wards in district
Ludhiana: Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Wednesday profusely thanked the voters, poll and security staff, candidates and political parties for cooperation in organizing free, fair and peaceful elections for Municipal/Nagar councils in the district.
It is pertinent to mention that the General elections of Municipal Councils/Nagar Panchayats were held in Khanna, Jagraon, Samrala, Raikot, Doraha, Payal, by election in Ward number 8 (General) of Mullanpur Dakha, and by election in Ward Number 6 of Sahnewal in Ludhiana District.
Out of the total 114 wards in the district during these elections, the Indian National Congress (INC) managed to win 82 seats, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) won 16, Independents secure 11 wards, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) get three wards while Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) got victory in two wards only.
In 33 wards of Khanna MC, INC won 19 followed six by SAD, four Independents and two each by AAP and BJP. Similarly in 23 wards of Jagraon MC, INC won 17, independents five and SAD got victory in one ward. In 15 wards of Samrala, INC won ten wards and SAD won five. In 15 wards of Raikot, INC won all 15 wards and In 11 wards of Payal, INC won nine and one each by SAD and Independent.
For the by-elections of one ward each in Sahnewal and Mullanpur, SAD won at Sahnewal and INC won at Mullanpur.
Deputy Commissioner said that polling and counting was largely peaceful and there was no report of any untoward incident from anywhere in the district.
