DC meet stakeholders of villages falling near Budha Dariya; discusses their issues
Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney today held a meeting with stakeholders of villages that are located in the vicinity of Budha Dariya and discussed several issues being faced by them.
Ludhiana, June 24, 2024: Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney today held a meeting with stakeholders of villages that are located in the vicinity of Budha Dariya and discussed several issues being faced by them.
This meeting was attended by MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi, ADC (Rural Development) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal, along with residents of villages Walipur, Khaira Bet, amongst several others.
During the meeting, the DC took first hand feedback of various issues being faced by residents of these villages with respect to Budha Dariya. The issue of setting up of another water treatment plant in the area was also discussed in the meeting.
In response to the request from the village panchayats, a committee has been established to conduct a thorough field inspection of the sites in these villages for establishing new treatment plant.
After taking feedback from the villagers, DC Sakshi Sawhney has formed a committee, led by the Additional Deputy Commissioner to inspect the sites in Walipur and Khaira Bet villages for the feasibility of setting up a treatment plant. The committee includes officials from the Punjab Pollution Control Board, Sewerage Board, Rural Development, and panchayats. Following the inspection, the panel will submit a report to the Deputy Commissioner.
During a meeting with officials from various departments and panchayats, the Deputy Commissioner mentioned that two sewage treatment plants (STPs) - a 225-MLD capacity STP at Jamalpur and a 60-MLD capacity STP at Balloke - are already operational.
The meeting also involved discussions on planting saplings along both sides of the Buddha Nullah in these villages.
Sawhney assured the panchayats that the cleaning and strengthening of the Budha Dariya is being carried out diligently by Municipal Corporation Ludhiana and other departments. Efforts are also being made to clean all drains, especially those upstream and downstream of Budha Nullah, to prevent overflow.
