DC meets Akhada village residents over Biogas plant

Jagraon (Ludhiana) October 21, 2024: Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal and Ludhiana Rural SSP Navneet Singh Bains on Monday held a meeting with a group of Akhada village residents over the Biogas plant and stated the plant will use only animal waste (cow dung) for the generation of biogas and this does not contaminate the environment.

Leading the discussion in the rural SSP Ludhiana Rural office today, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal emphasized that the farmers are being made to believe about the negative effects of biogas plants and stated that a panel of 14 experts concluded that such plants do not have any link to cancer.

The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted that this plant comes under green-category industries and this will have to adhere to all environmental regulations set up by the government and other bodies.

Additionally, Jorwal also encouraged farmers to sell paddy straw by making bales to such plants instead of burning it, as this will provide significant economic opportunities and create local employment in their respective villages itself.

The Deputy Commissioner also stated that many meetings had been held with the Kisan Talmel Committee by the district administration where experts, including scientists, oncologists, and environmentalists, had addressed most of the concerns and clarified all doubts raised by farmers unions.

Besides the representatives of Rice Millers Association, ADC Kulpreet Singh, SDM Simrandeep Singh, SP Parminder Singh Heer and other officers of the departments were also present.
