DC orders food supply department to procure 20000 plastic bags
Hundreds of MG-NREGA workers deployed to fill bags with sand
Ludhiana, July 11, 2023: Keeping in view of the prevailing flooding situation, Deputy Commissioner Surabhi Malik has ordered the food supply department to immediately procure 20000 plastic bags (each of 30kg capacity) and hand over the bags to the rural development and panchayat department.
In an order passed under section 33 of Disaster Management Act 2005, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was committed to extend relief to the people affected by flooding and the district administration was working tirelessly to protect the further damage of the areas due to flooding. She said that the Food, civil and supply department had been asked to ensure delivery of 20000 plastic bags to rural development and panchayat department so that these can be filled with sand and used immediately for protection works. She said that among 20000 sand bags, 5000 bags filled with sand will be supplied in Samrala, Jagraon, Ludhiana West sub-divisions besides 2000 bags will be sent to the areas falling under Ludhiana East and remaining 3000 will be kept in reserve.
The Deputy Commissioner said that to complete this gigantic exercise, sufficient MG-NREGA workers have been deployed and senior officials are overseeing the arrangements for smooth completion.
Malik said that the entire district administration was with the people in this hour of crisis and officers were leaving no stone unturned to provide relief to the flood-affected residents of the villages. She said that elaborate arrangements were made in the rescue centres where meal, food items and medical facilities are available round the clock.
To ensure that all flood affected persons are shifted to a safer place in an effective manner, the District Administration have also requisite 10 buses, four each from GM Roadways Ludhiana and GM PRTC Ludhiana and two from GM Roadways Jagraon depots.
