DC reiterates commitment for smooth and hassle-free procurement wheat amidst covid-19

Ludhiana: Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Friday said that the Punjab government led by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh is committed for ensuring smooth and hassle free wheat procurement in the ongoing season to facilitate the farmers in the grain markets. 

Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner said that the state government would start wheat procurement from today (April 10) and would lift every single grain of wheat amidst the shadow of Covid-19 pandemic for which elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure the grain markets remain free of the Covid. 

He said that the strict directions have been issued to ensure that the harvest of farmers is lifted from the grain markets promptly adding that farmer would not be allowed to face any sort of problem while selling their produce. 

Sharma said that all the Sub Divisional Magistrates and chiefs of the all procurement agencies have been asked to personally supervise the wheat procurement operations.

Deputy Commissioner said that special instructions have been issued to the officers/ officials for timely payment of produce to the farmers so that they do not face any inconvenience for the sale of their produce in the mandis. Further, they have ordered to ensure the availability of the masks, sanitizers, maintaining social distancing and sensitization of the farmers, labourers and commission agents and others to adhere to protocols through public address systems, he added. 

He said that the procurement of about nine lakh metric ton of wheat was expected in the district this year for which 107 mandis and more than 200 purchase centers have been notified for wheat procurement in the district to decongest the markets. 
The Deputy Commissioner said that arrangements have also been made for the prompt lifting of the food grains from the mandis.
