Ludhiana, July 1, 2024: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sakshi Sawhney on Wednesday directed the officials to complete all pending works of the upcoming international airport at Halwara by July 31.

Presiding over the meeting with officials from PWD, Public Health, AAI, NHAI, drainage and representatives from contractual company, the Deputy Commissioner stated that there was need to accelerate the pace of constructing apron and taxiway on the IAF campus. She asked them to ensure the completion of these works as soon as possible. She said the works, including construction of internal roads, public health services, campus lighting, terminal building, substation, toilet block, and parking, were over. 

The Deputy Commissioner had conducted a joint meeting with IAF on site on Friday and coordination efforts amongst all agencies while balancing security concerns  were being expedited. She also told the departments’ heads to give topmost priority to the completion of the remaining works.

She also held talks with PWD officials and representatives from contractual firm over the safety and structural integrity of building to ensure they can withstand vagaries of weather. She ordered them to submit safety certificate after  conducting the assesment study.

Sawhney also discussed the operationalisation preparatory  protocols and checklists  with officials from AAI regarding the shifting of the base from Sahnewal to Halwara once the airport commences. 

She expressed hope that the airport will be an economic catalyst which will boost industrial growth, export, employment, real estate and others.
