DC reviews working of Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the ABC program in the district
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sakshi Sawhney on Tuesday reviewed the functioning of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and the ABC program in the district.
Ludhiana, April 23, 2024: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sakshi Sawhney on Tuesday reviewed the functioning of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and the ABC program in the district.
Presiding over a meeting in her office, the Deputy Commissioner said that as per Animal Birth Control (ABC) project of MC Ludhiana, while the civic body has sterilised over 48,000 stray dogs in the city during last three years, there was a requirement to prioritise the garbage vulnerable points. She also directed the officials to further expedite the project. She also instructed officials to plan out dedicated locations and time schedule to feed stray animals in the city in line with the rules to prevent animal- human conflict. The officials must hold meetings with Housing societies and market associations regarding common feeding spots and time for residents to give food to animals.
Sawhney further discussed the proposals of starting adoption drive of dogs managed by the society, constructing an operation theatre in the Animal Birth Control Centre, adequate equipment, appointment of cow catchers funds for managing recurring expenses and others.
Sakshi Sawhney said that the society aimed to work for the welfare of all types of animals and provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the district. She furthur reiterated that preventive anti rabies vaccine be administered to municipal corporation workers engaged in animal catching and caring facilities.
The meeting was attended by ADC Major Amit Sareen, MC Joint Commissioner Chetan Bunger, Civil Surgeon Dr Jasvir Singh Aulakh, Assistant Director Animal Husbandry Dr Jagdeep Singh, Pooja Jain and others.
