DC takes stock of flood protection works in areas along Sutlej river

Ludhiana, June 19,2024: Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney today stock of flood protection works along the dhussi bandh on Sutlej River near villages Kannian Hussaini, Sherewal & Baghian of the district. She was accompanied by senior revenue and irrigation department officials.
The DC also directed all SDMs to ensure timely completion of flood protection works and also to visit all flood affected points of last year by Saturday so that any remedial work can be completed on time.
She also directed them to have the micro plans for villages ready which were flood affected previously, such as including placement of bags, JCB, poclain machinery, besides others.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed that the officials should remain vigilant to avoid any untoward incidents during the upcoming rainy season. Officials were directed to strengthen flood-prone sensitive areas to minimize damage in the event of a flood.
She said that the district administration would make adequate arrangements to handle any situation related to the rainy season, and contingency plans had been prepared by every department.
During the visit, Sawhney stressed the need to establish a viable mechanism to complete all flood control arrangements before the rainy season. She asked the officials to remain alert to avoid any untoward incidents during the monsoon.
Sawhney said that the district administration would make adequate arrangements to meet any situation during the rainy season. She asked the officials to ensure that work for strengthening the vulnerable points along the river was completed at the earliest.
She emphasized that every effort must be made to evolve a fool-proof mechanism for fortifying the weak points along the Sutlej River so that people do not face any inconvenience during the rainy season. She stated that the district administration was duty-bound to ensure that people do not face any problems during the rainy season.
DC Sawhney emphasized daily monitoring of the progress of the works and submission of detailed reports. She stated that any delay would not be tolerated and urged a time-bound completion of the work.
