DC takes stock of paddy procurement in Khanna and Doraha mandis

Ludhiana: To ensure smooth paddy procurement operations in the Ludhiana Mandis, Deputy Commissioner Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma today visited Khanna and Doraha mandis in Ludhiana district to take stock of the arrangements. He also interacted with farmers, commission agents (Arhtiyas) and officials to enquire about their problems related to purchasing.
The Deputy Commissioner also held a meeting with the Arhtiyas in the committee room situated at Market Committee office in Khanna Mandi. During the meeting, the Arhtiyas raised some issues with the Deputy Commissioner, who assured that all their problems/grievances would be resolved on priority basis. The Arhtiyas also submitted a memorandum of their demands with the Deputy Commissioner.
After a meeting with the Arhtiyas at Market Committee office at Khanna, the Deputy Commissioner said that in wake of COVID pandemic, it was a challenging task to gear up for procurement of paddy but the procurement has been going smoothly by taking proper precautions with all mandis have handwash stations, space to avoid chaos, proper sanitisation etc.
He assured the farmers that strict instructions have been issued to the officials to ensure that they do not face any problems in the mandis. He also expressed satisfaction over the ongoing paddy procurement and appealed to the farmers to bring produce with in specifications of moisture content laid by Government of India.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included SDM Khanna Mr Sandeep Singh Garha, SDM Payal Mr Mankanwal Singh Chahal, DFSC (East) Miss Gurveen Kaur, besides several others. /(October 15, 2020)
