Ludhiana, June 26, 2024: Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney chaired a meeting on Wednesday of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to review the efforts being made to drug free Ludhiana.

During the meeting, Sawhney accompanied by CP Kuldeep Singh Chahal stated that the district administration has been running a Sehyogi 24x7 helpline (0161-4257457) for drug dependants where they can call and receive any kind of assistance in getting treatment for leaving the drugs. She mentioned that this helpline will offer every support to them by ensuring treatment in nearby drug-de addiction/OOAT centres. She also asked the SDMs/health officials to make a list of the hotspot areas witnessing a large number of  drug dependants. She emphasized the need for stage plays, dramas, skits, or other sports activities to sensitize young minds about drugs in these hot spot areas.

Sawhney asked the education department to create awareness about the harmful effects of drugs in their institutions to make the district a drug-free zone. They were also asked to give a calendar of activities regarding drug awareness  among youth when the institutions open after summer vacation. They were also told to reactivate buddy groups in their institutions. She ordered the health department to organize medical camps in different parts of Ludhiana and disseminate information regarding the harmful effects of drugs, OOAT, and rehab centers. She suggested that this drive against drugs must be converted to mass mobilization which can be instrumental in drug-free district. She said that every initiative would be taken to safeguard the interests of the youth and leave the scourge of drugs. She also discussed skill development courses for the reformed and drug dependants.

The DC also told the SDMs to ensure that vigorous awareness drives are conducted in their jurisdictions where officers of civil and police administration educate people about the ill effects of drug abuse and motivate them to choose a healthy lifestyle.
CP Kuldeep Singh Chahal also detailed the crackdown started against the drug peddling and said that strict action is being ensured against those involved in this. He stated that supply lines of drugs have been completely plugged.
