DC urges youth to ensure every voter goes to booth on June 1

Ludhiana, March 30, 2024: District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner, Sakshi Sawhney on Saturday called upon the youth to strengthen democracy by ensuring that every voter around them reaches the polling booth on the voting day (June 1).

Speaking at PAU’s Inter-university national youth festival, Sawhney emphasized the significant role of youth in general elections. They should not only cast their votes but also encourage others to exercise their franchise on June 1 to strengthen the democracy particularly at the grassroots level.

Sawhney said that the success of Indian democracy largely depended on how actively the youth participate in the electoral process. The youth can register as voters through a single click on their computer or mobile by using the National Voter Services Portal (NVSP) and Voter Helpline App. She said that the youth had to click the link www.nvsp.in to get themselves registered as new voters. Additionally, they could also download the Voter Helpline App from the Google Play store on their Android phone to enroll them as voters.

As the voting would take place during the peak summer, the administration will make elaborate arrangements in the polling booths on the voting day to provide refreshment to the voters. The facilities of Lemon water, shade, and fans would be ensured. Further, the administration will launch a queue management app to enable the voters to check the status of the queue in front of a particular booth while sitting in their homes. Sufficient arrangements of pick and drop would be ensured to PWD voters besides voters above 85 can cast their votes from the comfort of their homes.

Later, Sawhney also administered a pledge to vote in the Lok-Sabha election. She complimented the students participating in youth festival, stating that these festivals provide a platform for students to exhibit their skills and instill confidence amongst them.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, ADC Major Amit Sareen, Assistant Commissioner Krishna Pal Rajpoot, renowned Punjabi Actress and Padma Shri Nirmal Rishi, and others.
