DCC (U) celebrates Quit India Day; honours freedom fighters

Ludhiana, August 9: The Ludhiana District Congress Committee (Urban) today organised a function to commemorate the Quit India Day celebrations at the Congress Bhawan.

The function was presided over by the DCC president Pawan Dewan and MLA Rakesh Pandey.

The party honoured several freedom fighters while acknowledging their contribution to the freedom and Independence of the country. The committee put on record their services and presented the planks of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, both Dewan and Pandey said, the freedom had to be safeguarded at all costs as there were recurring threats like terrorism, communalism and poverty still raising their ugly head time and again.

Freedom fighters Gurbachan Singh, Mohani Rani, Ram Krishan, Devki Nandan, Hira Nand Chopra, Isher Singh Sobti, Rajinderpal Sayal and veteran  Congresmen Ram Kishan Gupta, Dr Harbans Lal Arora, Pritpal Singh Ghayal, Des Raj Saini, Roshan Lal Singla, Chuni Lal were honoured.
