Ferozepur, December 22, 2012: Expressing concern over the Delhi gang rape and increase of rape cases in the country and incidents like honour killings, the Human Rights Legal Services Welfare Society, Ferozepur submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner, Ferozepur in the presence of Chairman Kamal Kalia, President, Dev Dutt Bedi, Patron Ashok Bawa, General Secretary Mohinder Kumar Kuril, Rama Nand, Preet and Dal Chand.

The Chairman of the society said, it has been demanded to establish Fast Track Courts at the district headquarters for quick decision in the cases of gang rape, rapes and honour killings.

He further said, there are number of cases which remained suppressed when appeared in the media and the victims do not get justice.  There is a need of stringent laws to deal with rape cases, he added.

Meanwhile, the students of Dev Samaj College for Women staged protest against the injustice with the girls under the leadership of Dr. Madhu Prashar, principal.  The question with regard to safety of the girls due to gang rape, attempt to murder and incidents of rape, were raised by Critic Ferozepur Chapter.

Addressing the students, Dr. Madhu Prashar, principal said, the girls should come forward for their own safety.  The girls going out in the bazaar and to the college often listen to un-parliamentary language and certain girls respond to that also but this would not happen now.  She further said, the police should take strong steps for the safety of the girls and there should be strict security around the girls’ schools and colleges. She also opined that playing of vulgar songs in the name of entertainment should immediately be stopped.  

There was also a candle march from Ferozepur City to Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk and Ferozepur Cantt by the students of schools and colleges. 

Kumari Rashika, Binish, Anmol,Chetna, Purnima and Akansha the students of Guru Nanak Dev University said, the increase in rapes in the Delhi and other parts of the country is a cause of concern and state and central governments should take strict measures for the safety of the girls and stringent laws with rare of the rarest punishment should be framed. 

In the candle march, the students of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nursing College, Dev Samaj Schools and Colleges, DC Model School, Convent School, Army School, DAV College for Women and number of local schools participated.

The peaceful march started from Sharheed Udham Singh Chowk ended at Baba Sher Shah Wali Chowk.
