Chandigarh, April 11, 2019: The Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized events to commemorate centenary of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre today. On this occasion, department organised various competitions on the theme of “Freedom Struggle” such as Poetry, Face Painting, Quiz, Patriotic Singing, Skit and Sketching.
Various events commenced at 10:00 a.m. with each judging panel comprising of esteemed dignitaries of their respective fields.
The prize distribution ceremony was presided by the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajiv Sharma, Judge, High Court of Punjab and Haryana. He briefed about the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre history and emphasized the fact we owe our freedom to the martyrs.
That we should cultivate ourselves to become individuals who have a high morality compass and would always fight for what is right.
Patriotic Singing was won by Kartikey Chaudhary (Winner) and Jonny Mittal (Runner up), Poetry by Amandeep and Sunaina Gupta (Winners) and Vishvpreet Singh (Runner up), Sketching by Ajeetpal Singh (Winner) and Sanjeev Kumar (Runner up), Face Painting by Madhuri (Winner) and Parwinder Kaur (Runner up), Skit by Suniana (BestActor), there were three winning teams for Quiz competition i.e. Team 1: Akinchan Aggarwal, Sumit Mor, Team 2: Paritosh Bawa, Raamandeep Saini, Team 3: Smrity Jayara, Kuldeep Singh.
Prof. Meenu Paul, Chairperson and Mrs. Anu Chatrath, Dean, Faculty of Law welcomed the guests, encapsulating the profile of the Chief Guest and highlighted the importance of remembering the sacrifice made 100 years ago today and ensuring that we never have to witness such a day. Dr. Vandana A. Kumar briefed the gathering regarding the theme of the day. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Babita Pathania, Co-ordinator of the event.
