Department of Life Long Learning & Extension, Panjab  University observed World No Tobacco Day

Chandigarh, May 31, 2017: Department of Life Long Learning & Extension, Panjab University observed World No Tobacco Day at Govt Model High School, Sector 25, Chandigarh on the theme of Adolescence Education and Life Skills.
60 students from 9th & 10th class attended the program. While interacting with the students Mrs.Renu Gandhi , Chairperson of the Department said that WHO created World No Tobacco Day in 1987 with an objective to urge tobacco users worldwide to abstains from using tobacco products from 24 hours, an action. They hope that this would provide assistance for those trying to quit smoking . She suggested that adolescence have an habit to do experiments in day to day life and because of peer pressure they used to do experiments on tobacco products . Therefore, adolescence needs to understand the life skills and say no to tobacco at their initial stage. The WHO in 2017 have an objective to celebrate this day as a threat to development. She suggested that life skills, like decision making, problem solving empathy, Stress Management would go a long way to develop a Tobacco Free Youth.
Principal of the School Mrs.Nisha Sachdeva highlighted the health risk of advocated for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption among adolescence. She said that because of marketing strategies the more youth are exposed to tobacco advertising and they are more likely to accept tobacco product to day to day life.
Mr.Nitish Kumar, A.T.O of the department there is need to raise public awareness of negative effective of smoking.
The adolescence have taken an oath to stay away from tobacco products. A rally was observed in the streets of Bhaskar colony to aware the masses about the side effects of tobacco.
