Chandigarh November 6, 2024: The Department of Community Education and Disability Studies today organised a workshop on the theme “Hands on Training of Tools for Children with Special Needs”.

Delivering the lecture, Clinical Director of Asha and CAIDD, Resource person Dr. Chhaya Sambharya Prasad explained the concept of Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Diagnostic Test for Specific Learning Disability and elaborated its whole process thoroughly. She also discussed NIMHANS tool, with respect to Specific Learning Disability. She suggested numerous significant tools for early identification of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disability and Intellectual Disability. 

Dr. Chhaya conducted the Hands on the many tools; Diagnostic Test for Learning Disability (DTLD), Diagnostic Test for Reading Disability (DTRD), NIMHANS Battery, Grad Level Assessment Device (GLAD) and other intelligence tests and explained its benefits for children with special needs. At the end, Nitin Raj, faculty member presented vote of thanks.

Earlier, Dr. Md Saifur Rahman, Chairperson of the department delivered the welcome note on the importance of the tool for children with special needs. The students of B.Ed Special Education (Leaning Disability) need to learn about the tools to screen and assess the Learning Disability in school going children and it will help to develop the Educational Plan for them, said Dr. Md. Saifur Rahman.
