Deputy Commissioner reviews Covid vaccination in district; holds meeting with representatives of NGOs

Ludhiana, January 19, 2022: Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today reviewed the ongoing Covid vaccination in district Ludhiana. While chairing a meeting, that was also attended by representatives of NGOs, ADC (Jagraon)-cum-Nodal Officer Vaccination Dr Nayan Jassal, District Immunization Officer Dr Manisha, Dr Puneet Juneja, besides others, the DC urged the residents to come forward and get themselves vaccinated in the interest of society.

He informed that 28,03,279 (106.51%) of the targeted population have received first dose, while only 15,97,592 (60.70%) population has come forward for their second dose. He urged all such persons to come forward and get themselves in the interest of society. He assured that vaccination helps in boosting immunity in our body that helps in fighting Covid even if one gets infected.

The Deputy Commissioner said that all healthcare and frontline workers and those above 60 years already having other ailments are also eligible for a booster shot, if they have completed 9 months from the date of administering the second dose.

He also urged all government staff, that has been deputed for election duty to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest. 

He said that as per the directions of Election Commission of India, the staff deputed on duty in upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections can get the booster dose even if they have not completed 9 months after 2nd dose. He said that now such staff can get booster dose 90 days after their 2nd vaccination.

The DC further said that a special vaccination camps for all election staff including teachers, government staff, bank employees, insurance sector etc who have been deputed for election duty, will be organised at all training centres on January 23, 2022. He said that both Covishield and Covaxin would be available at these camps.

He also urged members of NGOs to motivate the residents to get themselves vaccinated at the earliest. Dr SB Pandhi and Maneet Dewan were also present in the meeting.
