Kapurthala, August 14, 2024: Science City celebrated International Youth Day to raise awareness about the global challenges facing youth and to highlight their role as agents of change. More than 100 students and teachers from various educational institutions across Punjab participated in the event. This year’s celebration focused on the theme "From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development" emphasizing the critical role that digital technology plays in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Giving introductory remarks on this occasion, Dr. Rajesh Grover, Director, Science City, highlighted the remarkable creativity and innovation that young people are bringing to the digital space. He emphasized that youth are not merely consumers of technology but also innovators, leaders, and change-makers. Dr. Grover noted that young people are using digital tools to bridge gaps in education, advocate for climate action and drive inclusive progress, thereby paving the way for a brighter and more sustainable future. He encouraged students and educators to actively engage in digital learning and innovation, asserting that with their digital expertise, passion, and commitment, we can achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The key speaker at the event, Dr. Mahesh Kumar Sah Assistant Professor, NIT Jalandhar, delivered a lecture on the transformative role of digital technologies in advancing sustainable development. Dr. sah discussed how the digital era has sparked a new wave of collaborative progress, commending young people for their exceptional ability to connect, collaborate, and co-create innovative solutions to complex challenges using digital platforms. Further, he emphasized that through online forums and virtual incubators, youth are forging powerful partnerships and developing impactful solutions, demonstrating that digital engagement can indeed lead to substantial and meaningful progress.
