Jalandhar, October 12, 2023: A rally organized by the students of the DIPS college (Co-Educational) under the Punjab government’s initiative to prevent stubble burning. The rally was flagged off by the NSS wing to inform the public and farmers about dangerous effects of stubble burning such as degradation of the quality of soil, environmental pollution, and hazardous effects on human life.
MC of Village Miani Mohinder Singh and Karmjit Singh Pannu, along with farmers and Professors of Dips College participated in the Rally and encouraged the villagers to shun the practices of burning stubble in the field. Students also promoted widespread use of bio-decomposers for effective decomposition of stubble and stressed proactive steps, especially for the problem of stubble burning and for controlling air pollution in India.
College coordinator Harpreet Kaur said that one of the major problems of burning of crop residues are pollution and greenhouse gas emissions that lead to global warming. Rather than burn the stubble, farmers can prepare high grade organic stubble by burning by mixing the stubble with cow dung and some natural enzymes.
