Ludhiana, April 1, 2022: The District Governor of Rotary Club Dr Upinder Singh Ghai visited Ludhiana today and reviewed all the ongoing projects of Rotary Club in the district.
Lauding the efforts of Rotary Club Ludhiana, Dr Ghai said: “I congratulate the members for taking on very good initiatives during the pandemic. Rotary Club Ludhiana has actively worked on the seven areas of focus which are supporting environment, peace building and conflict prevention, basic education and literacy, disease prevention and treatment, water sanitation and hygiene, community economic development and maternal and child health.”
Initiatives being run at Guru Amar Das Apahaj Ashram Sarabha Village, in addition to the homeopathic dispensary at Nirdosh School were reviewed.
Over 150 people with mental illness are being treated at the Guru Amar Das Apahaj Ashram Sarabha. Rotary Club offers the inmates free rations and medicines.
Rotary Club also runs a free homeopathic dispensary at the Nirdosh School for Mentally Challenged.
Welcoming the District Governor, the Rotary President Dr R .L. Narang outlined all the work done during the past year.
He elaborated on the camps for detection of and treatment of cervical and breast cancer, which were successfully held. In addition biodegradable sanitary napkins and masks were also distributed under the health initiative of the club. Further, covid vaccination camps, diabetes detection camps and cancer detection camps were also organised.
As part of education, Rotary Club provided stationary and uniforms to students in government schools. Water coolers and RO systems for pure drinking water were also installed. In addition, scholarships were also provided to needy students.
Under the literacy initiative, free online classes for household workers were conducted. Free computer classes were also organised.
Tree plantation drives and online meetings on Indo-Pak peace were also conducted during the year.
Rotary Club of Ludhiana is over 70 years old and is working on various community based projects keeping the motto of `Service above self’. The Club has over 100 dedicated members in Ludhiana.
