Kapurthala, July 5, 2022 : Like every year, the Health Department observes intensified diarrhea control forghtnight from July 4 to July 17, 2022, to control the deaths due to diarrhea among children. Its goal is to completely stop the infant mortality rate, these things were done by Civil Surgeon Dr. Guridarbir Kaur during the district level workshop. Addressing the workshop, the Civil Surgeon said that the Diarrhea Prevention Fortnight has started in the district from July 4.

Expressing concern, Dr. Gurinderbir Kaur said that every year many children die of diarrhea in India. She said that the Health Department is continuously spreading awareness under the Intensive Diarrhea Prevention Fortnight to reduce the mortality rate of children due to diarrhoea. She said that the main objective of Acute Diarrhoea Prevention Pakhwada is to completely prevent diarrheal deaths in children up to 5 years of age. Dr.Gurinderbir Kaur said that Zinc and ORS corners have been specially set up in all the health institutions during the fortnight and all the staff have been trained in this regard so that they can take proper care of the children during diarrhoea. She emphasized that even after the diarrhea stops, children suffering from diarrhea will be given zinc for 14 days. Civil Surgeon Dr Gurinderbir Kaur urged the Senior Medical Officers, Block Nodal Officers, BEEs of various blocks who came to participate in the workshop to get the ASHA workers surveyed in villages and towns and to provide ORS and Zinc tablets to the children suffering from diarrhea.

So that if needed, life saving solution can be prepared and given to the child at home. At the same time, children in schools and Anganwadi centers will be made aware to drink boiled water during the rainy season, consume only clean and covered food items and keep their hands clean at all times. The Civil Surgeon said that ORS corners should be made in private hospitals also. During the workshop, Dr. Harpreet Momi gave information about controlling diarrhea by showing a video.
