Ludhiana, March 9 - Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal today stated that two workers have died due to the collapse of a factory roof at Focal Point Phase 8 on Saturday evening and four workers were rescued unharmed.
The rescue operations are still ongoing to locate one worker who is reportedly trapped beneath the debris.
Jorwal explained that three teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with local police, the fire brigade, the Municipal Corporation, and factory departments, have been working at the site for the last 21 hours. They have successfully rescued four workers who were unharmed. However, due to the substantial amount of debris, rescue teams are required to remove it carefully using manual equipment in order to reach the trapped worker.
The Deputy Commissioner further stated that according to the building owner, 29 workers were present in the unit on Saturday morning. At the time of the collapse, only seven workers were inside.
Jorwal also indicated that a magisterial probe, led by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of East, has been ordered to investigate the exact cause of the incident. Additionally, the Commissionerate Police have also filed a First Information Report (FIR) against four individuals. The government will cover the medical expenses for the injured workers, and adequate compensation will be provided to the families of the deceased.
Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian has also visited the site and emphasized that the top priority is to rescue the trapped worker beneath the debris. Police teams, led by DCP Jaskiranjeet Singh Teja, are assisting the rescue teams at the location.
