Diwali gift for 592 families as administration hands over proprietary ownership certificates under Basera Scheme
Punjab Government fulfills its promise to these people living in the slums of owning their homes
Ludhiana, November 2, 2021: In a major Diwali gift to 592 families living in Baba Jiwan Singh Nagar, Deep Nagar and Bhola Colony, District Administration on Tuesday handed over proprietary ownership certificates to them.
In a simple function, a team of administration led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (UD) Sandeep Kumar, SDM East Dr Vineet Kumar and MC Joint Commissioner Ankur Mohindru conferred property rights to them.
Sandeep Kumar said that Punjab Government has fulfilled its promise to these people living in the slums of owning their homes.
He termed the Basera program as a landmark step towards urban development by giving proprietary rights to every slum household occupying the state government land in a slum of any city area.
He said Punjab was the first state in the country to launch such a program that aims at transforming urban slum areas with basic civic amenities, including potable drinking water, street lighting and roads to slum dwellers.
Additional Deputy Commissioner also said that under this scheme, those living in slum areas, in houses of a maximum size of 30 sq yard will be benefitted from ownership of the house.
He asked the officials to ensure that every slum dweller gets the benefit of the scheme, which will make Ludhiana slum free and everyone would lead a comfortable life.
