DM bans carrying of firearms in Ludhiana district
In order to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections, the District Election Officer-cum-District Magistrate Sakshi Sawhney banned the carrying of firearms, ammunition or explosive substance in public places within the jurisdiction of district Ludhiana.
Ludhiana, March 17, 2024: In order to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections, the District Election Officer-cum-District Magistrate Sakshi Sawhney banned the carrying of firearms, ammunition or explosive substance in public places within the jurisdiction of district Ludhiana.
Exercising the powers vested under Section 144, Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, Sawhney said that this order would not apply to personnel of the army, paramilitary forces, police personnel and government officials who are duly authorized and carrying of arms as part of their official duty. Further, the orders will not be applicable to any religious symbol such as carrying of kirpan, etc.
Sawhney said that this order was made to ensure public safety and maintain law and order and conduct free and fair elections and shall come into force immediately and remain valid until the completion of the election process. She said that non-compliance with this order would be legally actionable and may lead to prosecution under the appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant laws.
