Ludhiana, June 30, 2023: The Department of Haematology/Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, is bringing advanced treatment options to patients facing blood cancer.
With a team of trained faculty and nurses at the helm, this department is offering comprehensive services for a wide range of conditions, including blood cancers (leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma), bleeding disorders, thrombotic disorders, thalassemia, and haemophilia. Notably, this department is only the third of its kind in North India, highlighting the commitment to advancing medical care in the region.
This is a specialized department which treats patients with all types of diseases of the blood, including cancers, disorders of red cells, white cells or platelets and bleeding or clotting disorders. The department has performed 60 stem cell (bone marrow) transplants with a success rate of approximately 95% since its inception. This notable accomplishment is attributed to the utilization of cutting-edge techniques, in which stem cells can be used from patients or voluntary unrelated donors from India and abroad, all of which have been performed in the institution. A significant role is played by the entire range of supportive services being available in Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, including stem cell collection, enumeration, cryopreservation, specialized nursing care, round the clock transfusion, paediatric care and critical care services.
Bipin Gupta, Secretary, Managing society said, "We are grateful for the support of our patients, their families, and our community. Stem cell transplantation is a team effort, and we are able to provide world class services due to the presence of most supportive services within the hospital itself. We aim to alleviate the burden of travel and facilitate convenient access to vital treatment options for patients and their families."
Dr Suvir Singh, MD, DM and DipRCPath (Haematology, UK), Head of Clinical Haematology and stem cell transplantation said that this is a significant step forward for medical care in the region and has been utilized by patients from Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. This brings a significant advantage to patients in the region, who will no longer have to travel long distances to access life-saving transplant procedures for blood cancers and non-cancerous conditions."
The Department of Haematology/Oncology and Stem Cell Transplantation is dedicated to providing exceptional care and bringing hope to individuals affected by blood cancers with the support of the hospital and the management.
