DMC&H commemorates World Hepatitis Day
To commemorate World Hepatitis Day, various activities were conducted at DMC&H.
Ludhiana, July 28, 2023: To commemorate World Hepatitis Day, various activities were conducted at DMC&H.
Viral Hepatitis is a global health concern which can be prevented by vaccination and maintaining personal hygiene, safe food and water, safe sex and safe needle usage. A Central Session was held in which presentations were given by faculty for the residents and fellow consultants. Dr Sarit Sharma, Prof, SPM, gave a presentation on “Epidemiology and Overview of National Hepatitis Control program”, “Clinical Aspects and Management of Hepatitis” was presented by Dr Varun Mehta, Prof, Gastroenterology and “Blood Borne Hepatitis: diagnosis and post exposure prophylaxis ” by Dr Veenu Gupta, Prof & Head, Microbiology.
Health talks and awareness sessions were conducted to sensitize general public and nursing and technical staff about Hepatitis and its prevention by Dr Jyoti, Dr Menal and Dr Manisha of Dept of Microbiology and Infection Control Nurses.
Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society said that this a commendable initiative of the department to spread awareness not just amongst the health care professionals but also to the general public.
Dr Sandeep Puri, Principal, DMC&H said that our hospital has state of the art diagnostic facilities for hepatitis detection and conducts regular awareness programs for the public. The hospital also has in place a policy for Hepatitis Immunization and post-exposure prophylaxis against blood borne viruses for all health care workers.
Dr Veenu Gupta, Prof & Head, Microbiology said that the department has latest facilities for screening and testing of Hepatitis viruses (ELISA, CLIA, PCR) on automated platforms like Cobas e402, Minividas, Ampliprep etc.
