DMCH Doc been elected as President of National Academy of Burns
Ludhiana, March 13, 2019: Dr Sanjeev Uppal (Professor & Head of Plastic Surgery) was elected as President of National Academy of Burns in the recently concluded national conference at Prayagraj . On his getting elected to such coveted post, Secretary of DMCH Managing Society-Sh Prem Kumar Gupta congratulated Dr Uppal. In his message, Dr Uppal said that Burns are a global public health problem and accounts for an estimated one lakh cases annually. The majority of such cases occur in low-income and middle-income countries. National Academy of Burns is a National Association of Professionals involved in Burn Care in India. It aims to promote dissemination of knowledge of Burns Management and Prevention amongst general surgeons, plastic surgeons, paramedical personnel and members of the medical profession in general. Burns injuries occur mainly in the home and workplace and are a leading cause of . morbidity. Burns are easily preventable and people should know about the preventive measures to be adopted while handling such things , he added . Department of Plastic Surgery, DMCH under the headship of Dr Sanjeev Uppal has been regularly conducting lot many ‘awareness programmes’ in educational institutions of the city to make children aware about adopting required preventive measures to avoid burn injuries specially during Diwali . Dr Uppal wish to start fellowship programme in ‘Critical Care Burns’ in the institution for doctors and nurses of the region. He also laid focus on the importance of special rehabilitation programme for burn survivors so that they should not feel neglected and society should come forward to help these people and improve their morale to be included in the mainstream of the society.
