DMC&H Ludhiana, in collaboration with Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), successfully organized two day health screening drive under 'Mission Swasth Kavach' at Kisan Mela held at PAU. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about hypertension, diabetes and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) while offering health screening, counseling and treatment services to the rural population. More than 1500 individuals were screened for hypertension and diabetes during the drive.

Ludhiana, March 22, 2025: DMC&H Ludhiana, in collaboration with Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), successfully organized two day health screening drive under 'Mission Swasth Kavach' at Kisan Mela held at PAU. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about hypertension, diabetes and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) while offering health screening, counseling and treatment services to the rural population. More than 1500 individuals were screened for hypertension and diabetes during the drive.

 

In addition to the screenings, free medicines were distributed to those in need and educational materials, including books and pamphlets, were provided to spread awareness about hypertension, diabetes and CPR. These resources aimed to empower the rural population with knowledge on maintaining their health and wellbeing.

 

A dedicated team of consultants and paramedical staff from DMC&H, supported by  volunteers from the National Service Scheme (NSS) cell of PAU, conducted the two-day event. The volunteers played a vital role in sensitizing the public through pamphlets and posters on the risks of uncontrolled blood pressure and diabetes, encouraging them to undergo screening.

 

The event was inaugurated by Dr. S.S. Gosal, Vice Chancellor of PAU; Dr SS Gosal -Vice Chancellor  along with Dr Bishav Mohan, Chief Cardiologist, cum coordinator  HDHI ; Dr Nirmal Jaura, Director of students welfare; Dr KS Suri, Joint Director of Students welfare; Dr Harmeet Saralch , NSS coordinator. Other dignitaries present included Dr Anurag Chaudhey, Professor & Head Department of Community Medicine, Dr Hitant Vohra, Professor & Head Department of Anatomy and other faculty members of DMC&H.

 

In his message, Shri Bipin Gupta, Secretary DMC&H Managing Society,  highlighted that DMC&H is committed to offer comprehensive healthcare services to all, particularly the underserved rural population, through such outreach programs.Our participation in the Kisan Mela is a step forward in providing timely diagnosis and treatment to the rural population, especially for conditions that progress silently.

 

Dr. Bishav Mohan, Project Head of 'Mission Swasth Kavach,'   and Chief Cardiologist, cum coordinator  HDHI  said that through  the demonstrations of CPR at events like the Kisan Mela, we aim to empower the general public, especially in rural areas, with the knowledge and confidence to perform CPR, ensuring that they are better prepared to respond in emergencies and save lives.

 

Giving detailed information about the drive, Dr Mohan highlighted that during the drive, more than 20 CPR sessions were performed for 187 attendees and 105 individuals were performed  hands-on CPR. Around 539 individuals (37%) were detected with hypertension, with 103 being initiated on medication and 436 advised on lifestyle modifications. Additionally, 73 individuals (5%) were diagnosed with diabetes, with 21 being started on medication to manage their condition.

 

As a part of the Mission Swasth Kavach initiative, individuals diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes received a comprehensive care,  which included personalized diagnosis and treatment details, a simple illustration explaining how hypertension affects body organs  and a dedicated helpline number providing guidance, motivation, and support for achieving effective blood pressure control.
