Department of Pediatrics, DMC&H Ludhiana inaugurated ‘Allergy Skin Test’ for the children today at OPD Block. It is a reliable and child friendly technique to identify specific allergens and to manage allergic diseases effectively.

Ludhiana, July 12, 2024: Department of Pediatrics, DMC&H Ludhiana inaugurated ‘Allergy Skin Test’ for the children today at OPD Block. It is a reliable and child friendly technique to identify specific allergens and to manage allergic diseases effectively. 

Secretary DMC&H Managing Society, Bipin Gupta inaugurated this state of the art investigation facility along with Treasurer, Mukesh Kumar; Principal DMC&H Dr G S  Wander; Dean Academics Dr Sandeep Kaushal; Medical Supdts Dr Ashwani K Chaudhary and all the faculty members from Department of Pediatrics.

DMC&H Ludhiana is the first medical college in the state of Punjab to have started this test by Certified Pediatric Allergy specialist. Dr.Karambir Singh Gill, Assistant professor of Pediatrics has received his fellowship in Pediatric Allergy and Asthma from Sir Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi. He is the first pediatrician in the city of Ludhiana to have completed this prestigious fellowship.

In his message, Sh Bipin Gupta, Secretary DMC&H Managing Society highlighted that the Department of Pediatrics at DMCH is committed to provide comprehensive and compassionate care to our young patients.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Puneet A Pooni, Professor & HOD Paediatrics, said that  our experienced pediatricians and allergy specialists use the latest techniques and equipment to ensure accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans for the children.

Giving information about skin prick test, Dr Karambir Singh Gill stated that this test is pain free and is done on OPD basis and results can be read within 30-40 minutes. It is done on arm of the child and around 10-12 allergens can be tested in single go. Commonly tested antigens are house dust mite, fungal allergens such as Aspergillus fumigatus and aeroallergens (Cynodon, Cassia,Morus alba) Kids having allergies to dogs and cats can also be identified. Food allergies are rising these days. Allergy to peanuts, groundnuts, yeast, milk can also be identified by this test. In the pollen season test is done as per pollination calendar. This test helps in children with allergies such as Allergic rhinitis and asthma.
