Display of Exhibition at safe Motherhood Day in DMCH, Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, May 31, 2019: Safe Motherhood Day and Menstrual Hygiene Day were recently observed by conducting an exhibition, role plays and poster presentation by the students of College of Nursing at OPD Block.

The main purpose of organizing these activities to create awareness among females regarding adopting basic heath hygiene during menstrual period and to make aware the pregnant women about importance of nutritious diet and other primary health care issues.

On ‘Safe Motherhood Day’ informative role play was being conducted by the students of College of Nursing for the women to take adequate precautions during pregnancy and after child birth. Dr Ashima Taneja, Professor and HOD of Obst. and Gynae, Dr Pooja Tondon, Obst. and Gynae, Vice Principal College of Nursing Prof. Nidhi Sagar, Mrs Mamta and Mrs Savita were present on the occasion. Student also shared the importance of diet during pregnancy and after child birth. An exhibition was also organized for the all mothers in which various things like- clothing, avoid standing positions, eating habits, to wear comfortable shoes etc.

On Menstrual Hygiene Day, the audience of patients and their attendants present in Pediatrics OPD of the hospital were informed that in present day scenario also, there are many myths and taboos attached to ‘menstruation’.

Getting a period is a natural phenomenon for girls and some ignorant parents put unnecessary restrictions on them like not allowing them to go to school or prohibiting their entry into kitchen or religious places. It is the duty of elder females of the house to make their daughters aware of menstrual hygiene. The posters were also displayed, exhibiting important information which need to be taken care when a girl experiences ‘mensturation’ for the first time. Principal of College of Nursing-Ms Triza Jiwan was also present on the occasion along with faculty from Department of Pediatrics.
