DMC&H Marks World TB Day with CME on Tuberculosis Advances
On the occasion of World TB Day, the Department of Microbiology, DMC&H in collaboration with the NTEP DOTS Core Committee organized a CME on "Tuberculosis Advances: Fight to End TB Today" in LT-1 at Dumra Auditorium. The session focused on the latest developments in TB diagnosis, treatment and prevention, aim to update the medical community on the most recent advances in combating the disease.

Ludhiana, March 24, 2025: On the occasion of World TB Day, the Department of Microbiology, DMC&H in collaboration with the NTEP DOTS Core Committee organized a CME on "Tuberculosis Advances: Fight to End TB Today" in LT-1 at Dumra Auditorium. The session focused on the latest developments in TB diagnosis, treatment and prevention, aim to update the medical community on the most recent advances in combating the disease.
The session was conducted for the faculty members, residents and MBBS students of DMC&H to discuss the intensified strategies to eliminate TB. The CME provided a platform for exchanging insights on drug-resistant TB, newer treatment protocols and strategies for early detection, which are critical to controlling the spread of TB.
The key note address on Ending TB : Current Status & Challenges was delivered by Dr Ashish Chawla, District TB officer, Ludhiana and other session was delivered by Dr Veenu Gupta, Professor & Head Department of Microbiolgy, Dr Anurag Chaudhary, HOD and Dr Sarit Sharma, Professor of Community Medicine, Dr Rajesh Mahajan, Professor & Head of Medicine, Dr Akashdeep Singh, Professor & Head of Pulmonary Medicine. Other faculty members from Department of Microbiology also graced the occasion.
Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, lauded the efforts of Department of Microbiology to conduct this CME and said that DMC&H is committed to provide the best treatment facilities for TB patients.
Dr. G.S. Wander, Principal and Dr Sandeep Kaushal, Dean Academics, DMC&H also emphasized the importance of such initiatives, noting, "Our institution is at the forefront of tackling TB through awareness, research and clinical excellence. This CME is a significant step in keeping our faculty and students prepared to deal with the evolving challenges of TB control."
Dr. Veenu Gupta, Professor and Head of the Department of Microbiology, remarked, "Raising awareness about TB is a critical part of our mission. Through the CME, quiz, and awareness programs, we are educating both the medical community and future healthcare professionals on the need to stay vigilant in the fight against TB. We need collective efforts to achieve the goal of ending TB."
Additionally, an awareness session was conducted for students of CT University, educating them on the importance of TB prevention, early diagnosis and timely treatment. This initiative aimed at creating informed future healthcare providers who will play a crucial role in TB control.
A quiz competition for MBBS Batch 2023 and poster/rangoli competitions for paramedical students were organized and a skit was also performed by the students to spread awareness about TB.
The team of Jasman Kaur, Vivek Singla, Samyra Mahajan & Tanveen Kaur won the quiz while Ishita Sainani, Jasman Kaur, Hitaishi and Gurinderjeet Singh secured the second spot in the quiz conducted by Dr Jyoti Chaudhary, Prof.Microbiology. In the poster competition, Deeksha Sharma and Chahat won the first and second prize respectively. The rangoli made by B.Sc. MLT 1st year students Anmol, Amisha, Komalpreet, Sumit and Mandeep was declared as winner. Dr Vandana Midha, Dr. HS Dhooria, Dr. Bhawna Garg and Dr. Namita Budhiraja were the judges.
