DMC&H observed World Hand Hygiene Day
Department of Microbiology & HICC DMCH under the aegis HISI-Ludhiana chapter celebrated "World Hand Hygiene Day" and the guidance of national HISI President Dr T S Jain, Secretary Dr Raman Sardana and Dr Ashwani K Chaudhary, Medical Suptd., DMC&H and Chairperson, Hospital Infection Control Committee organised a CME on Hand Hygiene.
Ludhiana, May 5, 2023: Department of Microbiology & HICC DMCH under the aegis HISI-Ludhiana chapter celebrated "World Hand Hygiene Day" and the guidance of national HISI President Dr T S Jain, Secretary Dr Raman Sardana and Dr Ashwani K Chaudhary, Medical Suptd., DMC&H and Chairperson, Hospital Infection Control Committee organised a CME on Hand Hygiene.
This year, the theme is "Accelerate action together. Save Lives Clean Your Hands", a call to unite and accelerate the necessary actions to maintain hand hygiene as a top priority.
To observe this day, a Central session for PG residents, nursing staff and Paramedical students was conducted. Along with that, a poster making competition and a group activity of hand hygiene practices was organized for MBBS Batch 2021.
Secretary, Bipin Gupta lauded the efforts of the department and the Infection control committee.
Dr Sandeep Puri, Principal, DMC&H said hands are the prime vehicle of carrying infections which can lead to respiratory and gastrointestinal problems. It is important, especially for our health care workers to know how to wash hands properly.
Awareness talks were also conducted in general OPD of DMC&H & DMC&H Urban Health Center, Shimlapuri, Ludhiana. The general public was advised about the importance of washing hands before and after preparing food, caring for elderly at home, after handling pet animals and especially for children when they come back home after playing outside.
Dr Veenu Gupta Head, Department of Microbiology stated that every year the department celebrates world hand hygiene day. She highlighted that every health care worker should follow 5 moments & 6 steps of hand hygiene given by WHO. Hand washing is one of the most effective ways to prevent infections including COVID-19 and patient safety.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of the competition by Dr Sandeep Kaushal, Dean, DMC&H, Dr Sarit Sharma, Professor, CPM and infection control officer, Dr Rama Gupta, Professor, Microbiology, Dr Jyoti Chaudhary, Dept of Microbiology and member of HICC, and Nurses and Residents present on the occasion.
