DMC&H observes World Diabetes Day
The Department of Endocrinology at DMC&H organised an awareness lecture for the general public on the occasion of World Diabetes Day. The theme for Diabetes Day is “Know your risk, Know your response”.
Ludhiana, November 14, 2023: The Department of Endocrinology at DMC&H organised an awareness lecture for the general public on the occasion of World Diabetes Day. The theme for Diabetes Day is “Know your risk, Know your response”.
Present on the occasion were Dr Sandeep Puri, Principal, DMC&H, Dr Bishav Mohan, Medical Suptd, HDHI, Dr Naveen Mittal, Prof & Head, Endocrinology, Dr Vikas Makkar, Prof & Head, Nephrology, Dr Saurabh Arora, Associate Prof, Endocrinology, Dr Sahil Goel, Assistant Professor, Ophthalmology and Dr Dhananjay Gupta, Assistant Professor, Neurology.
Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, lauded the efforts of the Department of Endocrinology to raise awareness about diabetes among the masses.
Dr Sandeep Puri, Principal, DMC&H Said diabetes is the most common disease that we see nowadays and this disease opens doors to other problems and ailments as well. So it is imperative to get blood sugar levels checked regularly.
Dr. Bishav Mohan, Medical Superintendent, said that according to research, 1 out of every 9 individuals is suffering from diabetes. Diabetes is also called the silent killer, as it is sometimes asymptomatic and can get worse without even being detected.
Dr Naveen Mittal, Head, Endocrinology, said that high risk individuals whose family members are suffering from diabetes and are obese must check their blood glucose levels regularly.
Dr. Saurabh Arora, Associate Professor of Endocrinology, said that the effects of diabetes can also be reduced if patients start to take care of their health. He also said that reducing weight by 10 to 15 kilos can even reverse diabetes.
Dr. Vikas Makkar, Head of Nephrology , Dr. Sahil Goel, Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Dr. Dahanjay Gupta, Assistant Professor, Neurology, also gave their expert opinions on diabetes and its effects on vital organs of the body.
A free sugar check-up camp was also organised for the patients and their attendants and around 120 people were checked for their blood sugar.
