DMC&H performs successful cadaver liver transplant
DMC&H has achieved another medical milestone by successfully performing a cadaver liver transplant. This achievement was possible through the generous decision of the family of 56 year old (male) brain dead patient who consented to organ donation through the State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO). The liver and cornea were retrieved and the liver was transplanted at DMC&H into a 66 year old male patient from Madhya Pradesh and cornea was stored at DMC&H

Ludhiana: DMC&H has achieved another medical milestone by successfully performing a cadaver liver transplant. Liver transplant was successfully performed by collaborative efforts of highly skilled team including Dr. Gursagar Singh Sahota, Chief Liver Transplant Surgeon; Critical Care team led by Dr. P. L. Gautam, Professor & Head; Anaesthesia team under the guidance of Dr Suneet Kant Kathuria, Professor & Head.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh Bipin Gupta, Secretary DMC&H Managing Society commended the dedication and tireless efforts of the medical team, recognizing their round-the-clock commitment to making this life-saving transplant possible. ‘Donors’ family kindness and courage will never be forgotten’ said sh. Gupta.
Principal, Dr. G.S. Wander congratulated the entire team and highlighted that we are deeply grateful to the donor family for their selfless act of giving the gift of life to another human being. DMC&H is one of the few institutes in North India to offer cadaver liver transplant services.
Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Medical Supdt., DMC&H emphasized the significance of organ donation and praised the unwavering dedication of the medical teams. He acknowledged their coordinated efforts in making life-saving transplants possible and highlighted the profound impact of such selfless acts have on patients in need of a second chance at life.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gursagar Singh Sahota, Chief Liver Transplant Surgeon, DMC&H said that the patient was suffering from chronic liver disease and had been experiencing problems for the past three year and was in urgent need of a liver transplant. This noble act of donor’s family gave a new lease of life to this liver patient. We salute the donor family for their noble decision to give the gift of life.
The donor’s body was escorted back to his residence with full honor and a heartfelt tribute was paid by the hospital staff.
