Doaba College organises Webinar on National Mathematics day

Jalandhar, December 24, 2021: PG Department of Mathematics of Doaba college Jalandhar city  organised DBT  sponsored webinar to commemorate the National Mathematics day. The resource person for the event was Dr Amaranth Gill (Professor Emeritus), Registrar IIIT, Una. The topic of the talk was “Mathematical  modelling of size of single species”. Principal, Dr. Pardeep Bhandari, Prof.Arvind Nanda-Head, Dr Bharti Gupta and Prof Jaagjot Singh and students welcomed the resource person. He briefed the students about  the research area of  resource person.
Principal, Dr. Pardeep Bhandari addressed  the participants about the relevance of National Mathematics day. He enlightened the student about the contribution of S. Ramanujan in mathematics and in particular  his contribution in  solving black hole problem. He inspired the students by saying that although S Ramanujan has no  formal education and  has limited resources yet  he excelled in his field because of his  exquisiteness and  Passion for the subject.
Dr Amaranth Gill initiated the talk with basics of mathematical modelling and its relevance in  the field of other Sciences. The focus of the talk revolved about application of mathematical modelling in ecosystem. He presented  an overview of the mathematical models associated with population ecology. He mentioned that mathematical models have been used to predict and understand changes in populations. He  further explained that in order to Deal with numbers of individuals of a species or interactions between species that change over time  dynamical model are used . Such dynamical ecological systems include the interaction between competitors for limiting food, the effects of mutualists or the trophic effects of predator-prey interactions. He  began with a broad introduction to population ecology and shown how Growth   models have been developed to explore a range of different ecological processes in continuous and discrete time. Towards the end of the talk, brief consideration is given to stochastic formulations of  ecological processes.  Talk  concluded  with brief perspectives on the future role of mathematics in population ecology. At last, webinar concluded with the vote of thanks by Prof.Gulshan Sharma , Scheme coordinator DBT department of Mathematics .The webinar was hosted by Sakshi, student of MSc Mathematics .
